Melbourne travelling to Adelaide

Australia's Great Ocean Road is known as one of the most dramatic coastal drives in the world. The coastline, although extremely dangerous for the early sailors, is absolutely spectacular.
At the western end of the Great Ocean Road is the rural city of Warrnambool. At least 28 wrecks are listed in the Warrnambool area and a further 29 at Port Fairy.
Our tour will take us via Torquay and Lorne and along the full length of the Great Ocean Road. We will see the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and many more coastal attractions.
From Warrnambool we will cross the border to Mount Gambier - gateway to the Coonawarra and then continue on to Adelaide.

Day 01 (D): Melbourne to Warrnambool

This morning we travel to Geelong, then onto Torquay for our morning stop. From Torquay we join the Great Ocean Road for a breathtaking drive along one of Australia's most spectacular coastlines.
Built to honour the servicemen and women of World War One, the road extends more than 300 kilometres along some of the best coastal scenery this country has to offer. We through the coastal town of Anglesea to Lorne which was the first place to be declared an
area of Special Significance and Natural Beauty by the Victorian Government. The approach to Lorne is spectacular and we stop for a wander around this popular Victorian seaside village located on Loutitt Bay and overlooked by the Otway Hills.

From Lorne we continue onto Apollo Bay, where the road leaves the coast and wind through the slopes of the Otway Ranges and Otway National Park.

To the west of the Otway Ranges the Great Ocean Road rejoins the coast and runs the full length of the Port Campbell National Park. Here there is the chance to see the Twelve Apostles - huge pillars which loom out of the surf, carved over time by the fury of the ocean.

We continue onto Warrnambool, a beautiful seaside city on the shores of Lady Bay. More than 100 ships and boats were wrecked within 80 kilometres from Warrnambool, hence the current name for the area - The Shipwreck Coast.
Dinner and accommodation in Warrnambool or Port Fairy in a unique selected upmarket venue.

Day 02 (BLD): Warrnambool to Coonawarra.

After breakfast we travel west along the coast to Portland, Victoria's first permanent white settlement. It is built on Portland Bay which is the only deep water port between Adelaide and Melbourne. From Portland we travel to Nelson. Here the beautiful Glenelg River, which flows through the Lower Glenelg National Park, enters the Southern Ocean. The very best way to see the National Park is by boat and so today we have arranged a river cruise, with lunch, to show you this dramatic area, just inside the Victorian border.
We continue to Mount Gambier and after lunch we are met by our local guide who will spend the afternoon showing us around Mount Gambier.
The city is built on the slopes of an extinct volcano and is well known for its Blue Lakes which are the city's most famous attractions. In November each year the water in the lakes change from a steely grey colour to a bright, sky blue. Scientists continue to be baffled by this yet to be explained phenomenon. We begin at the Lady Nelson Tourist and Interpretative Centre. This outstanding complex provides and displays information on the South East Region of this state known as the "Green Triangle". Lieutenant Grant tells his story of discovery, see the neon volcano erupt, walk over the fossil cave floor and view a superb film on the South East.
Departing the Lady Nelson Centre we make our way to Umperston Cave to view the beautiful open cave and spectacular terraced gardens. From Mount Gambier we travel into the Coonawarra Wine Region.
Tonight we stay inthe Delightful Coonawarra.

Day 03 (BLD): Coonawarra to Adelaide

After a tour of the Coonawarra Wine Region we stop for lunch at the delightful Hermitage Restaurant.
This afternoon we travel across the coast to Kingston.
We then follow the coast through the Coorong National Park to the eastern edge of Lake Albert and Lake Alexandria and onto Adelaide.
Tour then ends here in Adelaide.
