Day
01 : Adelaide to the Clare Valley (Wednesday)
The Clare Valley, situated at 400 metres above sea level is seen by
most visitors as a region of mysterious misty mornings in winter,
russet colours, and vivid sunsets in autumn, and green and brown colours
in summer.
We enjoy morning tea at Bungaree Sheep Station and then a brief tour
of this fascinating property, before returning to Clare for lunch.
This afternoon we enjoy several wine tastings in "the valley"

Day
02 (BL): The Flinders
Ranges (Thursday)
The Flinders Ranges, in the northern part of South Australia, are
colourful and rugged.
For 40,000 years this place has been special for Aboriginal people
who followed its dreaming trails stretching from the sea to the centre
of Australia.

From
the Clare wine country we travel to Burra where copper was discovered
in 1845. Very quickly a town developed with a community of 5,000 in
1851.
At that time Adelaide's population was 18,000 people.
We
tour this historic township and then travel on to Wilpena Pound in
the Flinders Ranges National Park for a picnic lunch.

In
the afternoon we travel into the more remote Northern Flinders and
our base for the next two nights - Arkaroola.

Day 03 (BD): Northern Flinders Ranges (Friday) 
The Northern Flinders are not
as well known and are a little more difficult to get to than Wilpena
Pound - but the effort is worth it!
This morning we take the incredible four wheel drive Ridge Top Tour
which will take your breath away.
We return to Arkaroola at lunchtime

Day 04 (BL): Travelling South (Saturday) 
From Arkaroola we travel to the western edge of the Ranges. We stop
at an Outback Pub at Parachilna for an early lunch before continuing
to Port Augusta.
This town at the top of Spencer Gulf is refered to as "The Crossroads
of Australia" It is the junction for the major
trans-continental transport services. Australia's best known trains
the Indian Pacific and "TheGhan" both pass through this
town.

Day 05 (BL): The
Barossa Valley (Sunday)
The Barossa Valley Vineyards were
established within a few years of modern South Australia's founding
in 1836. German and English settlers began planting grapes and now,
more than 150 vintage years later, the wines are world famous.
We visit the boutique wineries of Bethany Wines (the oldest vineyard
in the Valley) and then Rockford Winery (home of the world renowned
Basket Press Shiraz. |
Then
we head to Menglers Hill for some great views over the Barossa.
Lunch is at at traditional Barossa winery. This afternoon we visit
some of the better known wineries in the area.
Late afternoon we arrive back in Adelaide completing our GREAT AUSSIE
OUTBACK ICONS TOUR.
